I have been working for Advanced Bionics for almost 6 years now. Six years of a life in service to others, and with this amazing cochlear implant technology. Six years that seem like an eternity to me because my life before seems so far away!
This life was marked greatly by degenerative deafness which began to cut me off from the world at the age of 17. Slowly but surely, my hearing has worsened at a time when others were building themselves, emancipating themselves. and tasting the simple but essential joys of social life.
During this time, I too have had joys and successes. I studied for a long time until I got my doctorate degree, I partied a lot, played music, and fell in love.
One day, I accepted a job offer in a new city, and I found myself alone in a city where I had no ties. Alone, my deafness struck me as an unbearable burden, choking me day after day to the point of suffocation. I no longer heard anything; I no longer understood anything; I no longer had the strength to fight against this handicap which cut me a little more each day from others and from life.
Fortunately, that's when I met the right people--careful and knowledgeable professionals who referred me to cochlear implants.
On October 26, 2012, I became a bionic man. A year later, I got my second CI. My first implantation marked the beginning of a unique period full of positive emotions, I saw progress in my hearing due to the countless hours of hearing and speech therapy.
I regained my "joie de vivre," my enthusiasm, motivation, creativity, confidence, and tremendous positive energy! I was going out again for the sake of meeting people, I got into photography, I got my motorcycle license, I traveled a lot, I got back to playing the guitar, I fell in love ... many times! 😊
