I wasn’t born deaf. I was roughly 2 years old when meningitis took my hearing away in both ears. I had hearing aids up until I was 14 years old when I got a cochlear implant on my left ear. Two years later, when I was 16, I got another for my right. 😁
With hearing aids, I constantly had to lip read. It was hard work. My implants took that pressure off and I can't live without them ❤️ They have had a fantastic impact on my life and made my life so much easier. I can hear so much more, especially the high pitch sounds that I couldn’t hear when I had hearing aids.
Now I can hear the birds, singing, sponge rubbing on table cloth, kettle boiling, etc. I don’t have to always look at people's faces to hear what they say or lip read at all. People's voices are clearer and sounds perfect 👌🏻
Everyday, I enjoy the little things that my implants make possible, like talking to the cashier in a shop. In the meanwhile, I've gone to the university and got a degree. And I know as I get older, things will improve even more!
