"So a year ago today our beautiful, amazing, clever son Nelson had his @advancedbionics Cochlear implants switched on!!
For our followers that don’t know, Nelson was born profoundly Deaf, and was unable to hear anything when he was tested with sound up to 125dB, the equivalent of a jet plane taking off in the room. Nelson was fitted with @phonak hearing aids at the age of 11 weeks. Unfortunately the hearing aids could not even give him access to sound.
After lots of appointments all over the south east and London and an MRI scan, Nelson was given the ok to have bilaterally Cochlear Implants. This would mean a lengthy surgery to fit the device inside his head and ear. The surgery was a great success on the 14th June, he then needed time to let the swelling subside and his body to adapted to the implant. Just over 5 weeks later, we traveled to St Thomas’ hospital in London, TV crew in tow for his activation.
The video you are hopefully watching, shows the moment that Nelson heard sound."
