3 March is World Hearing Day, organized annually by the World Health Organization (WHO). This year, numerous events will take place around the world under the motto "Check your hearing". The common aim: to draw attention to the importance of early identification and appropriate intervention for hearing loss.
Many people live with unidentified hearing loss, often failing to realize that they are missing out on certain sounds and words or thinking that this is normal in old age. The first step towards addressing the issue could be so simple: a hearing test that can easily be carried out online. Each of us should have our hearing checked from time to time, especially those who are at a higher risk of hearing loss – such as adults above 50 years, those who are exposed to noise at work or who listen to loud music for long periods of time, and those experiencing ear problems.
Sonova is once again supporting World Hearing Day with its own campaign – an online hearing test, matching this year‘s motto. The online test makes it quick and easy to check one’s own hearing ability. And best of all: For every hearing test completed online by 3 March, Sonova donates $1 to the non-profit Hear the World Foundation which supports people in need, particularly children, with hearing loss all around the world.
What a lot of people don't know: Untreated hearing loss can not only compromise one's own quality of life, it can also cause high costs.
Since 2006, the Hear the World Foundation has supported more than 90 projects on five continents. The Foundation donates hearing solutions, provides funding, and arranges for professionals to deliver hearing care and train local professionals. Additionally, it gets involved in hearing loss prevention and funds measures to improve medical and audiological basic care as well as campaigns to provide information and raise awareness.
