Congratulations to Sanemi, who recently hosted a charity cake sale to raise money for children with hearing loss! Manjiri, Sanemi’s mum shares her story…
“Sanemi was born with profound hearing loss in both her ears. She was bilaterally implanted with Advanced Bionics cochlear implants at 15 months old, with great support from the Emmeline Centre for Hearing Implants in Cambridge.
Today, Sanemi is 11 years old and loves to bake! On the 13th August whilst visiting her family in Pune, Sanemi along with The Rotary Club of Poona Midtown and The 5th Course Confectionary, hosted a fundraising cake sale for Big Ears project at KEM hospital to raise funds to support deaf children with limited resources to have cochlear implants just like the ones she has.
The fundraiser sold about 150 cakebars and cupcakes, raising 27,360 Indian Rupee’s (approximately £265) from the cake stall and social media orders. Sanemi’s parents, Deepak and Manjiri, have matched the funds raised by the cake sale to a total of 54,720 Indian Rupee’s (approximately £530).
Following the cake sale success, Sanemi’s uncle Rotarian Sunil Hingmire has promised to take this project forwards via the Midtown Rotary Club, Pune, and they have committed to contribute and raise an additional 1 lakh rupees (approximately £968). The entire family have decided to keep supporting the Big Ears project at KEM Hospital. Three cheers to all the bakers and helpers who made the day a huge success. We are so proud of Sanemi!”
