Hearing technology since 1947

Sonova headquarters in Stäfa, Switzerland

Since the founding of “AG für Elektroakustik” in 1947, the Sonova Group has been able to sustainably gain market share and create added value for all its stakeholders. This is the result of constant development of the innovative product and brand portfolio and continuous professionalization of the distribution network.

In the area of hearing aids, the Sonova Group has relied successfully for years on a market-oriented, diversified brand and product portfolio. At Sonova, we now offer our customers with our brands Phonak and Unitron the most comprehensive and highest-quality range of hearing aids in the industry. Our Group intends to continually expand its leading market position in this business area supported by the fast growing international professional service network of hearing care providers under the roof of our AudioNova brand (including Connect Hearing).

In the hearing implant sector, our Group was able to expand its product offering to include cochlear implants through the acquisition of Advanced Bionics in 2009. This business area, which is still relatively young, will benefit significantly in the future from the current state of technological development and from the sales expertise acquired in the established hearing aid business.

Sonova Holding AG was formed on August 1, 2007, from Phonak Holding AG. It is now the only company to combine such comprehensive technological expertise in the area of hearing instruments and hearing implants under one roof.

History in Australia

Wholesale represented by Sonova Australia Pty Ltd

Sonova Australia Pty Ltd commenced in 1984 as the then partnership between Phonak and Telex, located in Seven Hills, a suburb of Sydney. The company was formed to assemble BTEs for National Acoustic Laboratories which later became Australian Hearing. In 1989 the company became Phonak Australasia Pty Ltd and moved across to Blacktown to accommodate the growth. By 1992 Phonak had contracts with the Government to supply ITE Hearing Aids, and faceplates were manufactured for the world market. The company continued to grow and moved again in 2002 to Norwest Business Park in Baulkham Hills. With the end of faceplate production in 2003, the company was already moving towards a sales organisation. From this time, Phonak and Unitron began to grow in the market and new management restructured the business and introduced departments including Sales, Marketing, Customer Service and Order Entry. The Production side of the business remained strong, with the focus on Service and custom products. To enhance business processes the company moved offices in 2014 to our own independent site in Baulkham Hills. Today with over 100 staff, the Sydney office is run with full operational systems including Sales, Marketing, Customer Service Call Centres, Manufacturing and Production, Service and Repair Laboratory, Stores and Warehousing. The company also has in field Audiology Specialists across Australia providing technical support to our valued partners. Over the past 30 years, the wholesale business has seen much growth and change, largely attributable to the momentous technological advancements during this time. The Australian wholesale business is proud to now be known as Sonova Australia Pty Ltd and serves the market with all of Sonova’s wholesale brands – Phonak, Unitron and Advanced Bionics. The company remains committed to providing Australia with the best possible outcome for hearing solutions combined with technological innovation and customer service excellence.
